It is nearby La Spezia (14 km, 20 minutes by bus). The closest airports to La Spezia are PISA
and GENOVA. In particular the airport of Pisa is very convenient because it has the train

Program

Registration
A regular participant should fill out the application form and send before 31 July, 2002.
The application form includes an abstract, which is needed for the program. A limited number
of students, which do not need to make a presentation, will be supported.
ESF-Support of travel/accomodation
The 1st ESF-Nanotribology Conference in Portovenere is supported by the
ESF-Programme NATRIBO which started in April 2002. There will be no fees
for the participation at the workshop. A limited number of participants will be
also supported for local expenses and/or travel expenses according to the ESF-guidelines.
The decision about the acceptance of participants and the amount of support will be
made by the steering committee of the ESF-NATRIBO programme. Participants from
contributing countries (United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Germany, Turkey,
Finland, Poland, Norway, Belgium, Israel, Portugal) will be favoured.
If scientifically justified, a limited number of participants from non-contributing
European countries can also be supported. A few participants from overseas will be
invited by the ESF-NATRIBO steering committee. All participants are expected to stay
the whole period from October 19 (arrival date) to October 23
(departure in the afternoon). Those participants who ask for travel support
should plan their travel according to ESF-guidelines: Air tickets should
be tourist class (or at lower rate if cheaper tickets, e.g. PEX/APEX, are available).
Train ticket and train supplements may be frist class. Taxis should only be taken
when convenient public transportation is not available. Use of private car is possible,
but will be reimboursed on the basis of 1st class train tickets or, for longer distances,
on the basis of APEX airfare.
Insurance
Health insurance has to be organized by the participants, themselves. The organizers
will not take any responsibility for health care of participants.

Deadline for Submission of Application form, including abstract: 31 July, 2002
Notification of Acceptance of Participation: 1st September, 2002
Arrival of Participants: Saturday , 19 October, 2002
Departure of Participants: Wednesday afternoon, 23 October 2002
Accomodation costs
A package has been arranged by the organizers in the Hotel Royal Sporting in Portovenere.
The package includes 4 night accomodation (19-23 October), 4 breakfast, 4 dinner, 3 lunch
(Drinks are not included). The costs are 340 Euros in double room or 400 Euros in single room.
Note for accompanying persons: The costs for accompanying persons are 340Euros for the package
(19-23 October) including 4 night accomodation, 4 breakfast, 4 dinner, 3 lunch. The costs for
accompanying persons will not be covered by ESF-NATRIBO.
